- Griff nicht unbedingt für sehr große Hände geeignet, maximal bis circa Handschuhgröße 10, ansonsten könnte der Fingerschutz als störend empfunden werden

Gleichwohl für Jagd und Abenteuer gemacht ist das Explorer Elite ein sehr robustes Messer mit universellem Anwendungszweck.

Which did you prefer Dawson explorer or big bear? Trying to choose between them for a carry, survival, camping knife.
Hi Travis,
as a survival knife I would choose carbon steel instead of powder oder stainless steel. But if I should decide between Explorer and Big Bear, definitely the second, it’s more practical.

Thank you the reply. They now have them in a magnacut steel which I believe is a stainless.
On another note, You say the Big Bear is more practical. From my perspective based on the can opener/ bottle opener and pry bar portion it seems the explorer has more “functions”.
What practical portion of the Big Bear did you find that weighted your decision?
Both steels, both the 3V and the Magnacut are more or less rust resistant powder metallurgy steel grades.
People have different usage behaviors. I am a tour guide and hike through the wilderness for several weeks. I’ve never needed a bottle opener there. My knife is used exclusively for working with wood and for food production and preparation. The blade design of the Explorer is not conducive to any of this work.
Besides that, I also make my own knives to have the best possible. Choose the best possible for you;-)
